Replacing your heat sinks with thermal paste

The original Obelisk heat sinks used small clips to attach to the chips. You can find instructions for replacing those here.

For newer Obelisk miners that used thermal paste to secure and help disburse heat, they can be easily repaired by you or your colocation facility.

  • Remove the heat sink (or leave it off if it fell of)
  • Scrape the remaining hardened thermal paste off with a smooth, flat device similar to the ones found here.
  • Reapply the thermal paste. Typical application involves a pea-sized or smaller dot on the center of the chip, and then firmly but gently putting the heat sink back on.

This will re-attach the heat sink to the chip, allowing it to properly dissipate heat.
