Use a VPN

A VPN is a virtual private network. In general, private networks are controlled, safe environments where a device can operate without outside influence. Public networks are less controlled, less safe environments where a device might be affected by many things – including hackers and malware.

A VPN allows you to have a safe and private connection when using a very large public connection, like the internet.

Putting your Obelisk behind a VPN is a great way to keep it safe, and is something we recommend if possible. Many colocation facilities shroud their devices behind VPNs. If you use one, ask your specific location what kind of security they use for devices in their care.
